With the new EDW, the financial institution was able to overcome the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and continues to innovate.
Inspiring the conscious use of financial solutions has always been the mission of SEMEAR, a multiple bank with operations throughout the national territory. Reaching 2 million customers, the institution, founded in 2006, has been dedicating efforts to the continuous improvement of operational management, driven by the evolution of its technological framework and process automation.
According to the CEO, Roberto Azevedo, innovation has been used as a constant search for efficiency, at all levels of the company. “The technology projects managed internally are divided into several fronts and involve the entire SEMEAR technology park, which has been undergoing a major transformation to support and ensure controls and scalability for businesses and products in a digital environment,” he says.
Elected as the second Best Company in the Innovation category in the banking sector by Anuário 360ª Época, the institution's objective is to meet the demands of its customers, offering quality services, with agility and practicality.
One of Banco SEMEAR's main highlights is its performance in Retail, a segment for which it provides CDCE (structured direct credit to consumers) operations, becoming an important partner for large retailers.

Challenge: Consolidate multiple databases into a single environment
“In 2019 we needed to improve our BI system, a homemade solution built over 3 years that had been having problems with the delay in generating results. The initial processing took a few minutes, but over time it took more than an hour to complete the processing”, says Júlio Caldas, responsible for the Data Intelligence area at Banco Semear.
The executive says that he also needed to create a layer of dashboards and trend reports, KPIs that would drive business decisions. To this end, it was important to consolidate several databases into a single environment.
Responsible for the maintenance and evolution of applications in the Data area that help decision-making at different levels of the institution, whether operational, managerial or strategic, Júlio Caldas went in search of cloud computing services to help overcome this challenge.
“We needed to review our technology situation to meet the needs of all areas in a fast, reliable and scalable way. The bank at this time was already making several moves towards the cloud and this was the path we followed,” he says.
Solution: construction of the new EDW (Enterprise Data Warehouse)
So a project was started in which several cloud solutions were evaluated. The chosen application should support databases capable of storing large volumes of information and providing quick responses.
“This technology selection process was internal and after the choice we needed a supplier with experience to have a greater guarantee of success”, explains Júlio Caldas.
Flexa Cloud has entered the field
After evaluating some suppliers, Banco Semear closed a contract with Flexa Cloud and started the construction project of the new EDW (Enterprise Data Warehouse).
The work required a task orchestration tool (ETL), secure data transfer between systems (on-premises) and the cloud, processing dimensional views and finally presenting the results to users in a simple and easy way through dashboards. (viewing panels) either via browser or cell phone (smartphone).
Results: just three months later, Banco Semear
Júlio Caldas says that the project's strategy was to obtain incremental results. “Following the Agile methodology, we defined a small scope and a short execution period. In just over three months, we were already presenting the first results for some of the bank's business areas and, through recurring feedback, we were improving the information and building the EDW”.
Banco Semear's Data Intelligence reduced the impacts of the pandemic
With the COVID-19 pandemic, the EDW project became even more relevant for Banco Semear.
In the words of Júlio Caldas, “a lot of information that was needed in this unique moment that humanity passed was not available in the required time. Thanks to the structured access to the data and the computing power of the technologies involved, we were able to provide reliable and fast information that helped the bank's strategic decisions”.
Today, celebrates the executive, the project was internalized by the bank through the absorption of part of the knowledge of the Flexa Cloud team.
“We continue to build the EDW that every day becomes more relevant and fundamental to the dynamics of the bank's operation. We are currently pushing the boundaries so that corporate customers themselves have access to information and can benefit from it.”
