Towards tomorrow: unlocking the future of Generative AI in 2024

In a constantly evolving technological scenario, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) emerges as the driving force redefining how we conduct our business and shape our future. Research by the Institute of Electronics and Electrical Engineers (IEEE) reveals that, by 2024, AI will be the most crucial area of technology, significantly influencing the business landscape. However, while AI as a whole is hailed as the protagonist of the future, what specifically does generative AI have in store for us?

AI in 2024: trends and perspectives

The survey conducted by IEEE interviewed 350 technology executives in five countries, including the United States and Brazil. Surprisingly, 65% of respondents believe that generative AI will continue to dominate technology in 2024, indicating substantial confidence in this particular aspect of AI. However, the study also revealed challenges and cautious expectations regarding the future of generative AI.

The research showed that telecommunications will be the sector most impacted by innovations next year, and the imminent arrival of 6G, scheduled for the next 3 to 5 years, stands out as a focal point. Furthermore, quantum computing, with its exponentially greater processing power, will gain prominence in 2024, especially in applications such as post-quantum cryptography and security.

Generative AI: Challenges and Opportunities

Despite optimism regarding generative AI, CCS Insight, known for its accurate predictions, predicts a “temperature turndown” in 2024 for this technology. Ben Wood, chief analyst at CCS Insight, warns that the complexity, costs and risks involved in implementation will begin to outweigh initial enthusiasm. The frenzy surrounding generative AI in 2023 has generated disproportionate expectations, and there are hurdles to overcome before this technology reaches the market broadly.

One of these challenges is the need for enormous processing power to run the complex mathematical models that enable generative AI responses. Companies need to invest in high-power chips, resulting in considerable expenses. Furthermore, the regulation of AI in the European Union will face challenges, as standards will have to undergo constant revisions due to the rapid evolution of this technology.

The future is right there

As we approach 2024, the future of generative AI is intriguing and challenging.

Given this scenario, it is crucial that companies are prepared to face the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities that generative AI offers.
