5 AWS Tech Predictions for 2022

Werner Vogels, vice president and chief technology officer at Amazon.com recently published five technology forecasts for 2022. According to him, Artificial Intelligence will finally reach its peak in software development, among other trends.

We decided to gather here what the executive defends, since the beginning of the year is always conducive to this type of forecast.

The idea is for you to stay on top of the vision of one of the most influential Big Techs in the world, and to be able to imagine the directions of technology in the business world.

AWS Technology Predictions for 2022

1. Artificial Intelligence will take care of software development

“In 2022, Machine Learning will begin to play an important role in increasing software developers’ workflows, helping them to create more secure and reliable code.” Werner Vogels.

For him, tools like Amazon DevOps Guru, Amazon CodeGuru, GitHub Copilot and GPT-3 “are the first steps of the future of development, where machine learning is used in code development and software operations workflows”.

“In the coming years, I believe we will see an explosion of capabilities in Artificial Intelligence in software development” — Werner Vogels, AWS.

2. The cloud will reach EVERYWHERE

In 2022, we will see specialized solutions bring “all the muscle” of the cloud to transform warehouses, restaurants, retail stores, farms and more, argues Vogels.

“What we will see in 2022, and even more in the years to come, is the acceleration of the cloud beyond the traditional centralized infrastructure model and into unexpected environments where specialized technology is needed.”

“The cloud will be in everything from trucks driving down the road to the ships and planes transporting goods. It will be distributed globally and connected to almost any device or digital system on Earth and even in space.” — Werner Vogels, AWS.

3. Smart spaces will consolidate, especially in the care of the elderly

Thinking about the impacts of technology on the social fabric, Vogels argues that by 2022, “our homes and buildings will become better assistants and more attentive companions to truly help with our most human needs”.

For the executive, the greatest impact will be with the elderly. “It will be a combination of the simple tasks you would expect – from dimming the lights, locking doors and turning off the oven if someone forgets – to the more contextual and proactive things technology can do: asking questions when normal living patterns diverge and common sense solutions act when necessary”.

“This will result in taking better care of people, and in the case of an aging population, it means that we will create a new class of homes so people can actually stay at home.” — Werner Vogels, AWS.

4. Sustainability will gain its own architecture

For the chief technology officer of Amazon.com, this year developers will begin to make conscious sustainability decisions about the systems and applications they are building. "They will look for new approaches to cloud architectures that optimize for the needs of the planet as well as the needs of end users."

“Let's be clear: technology uses energy, and at AWS we are committed to making smart infrastructure choices. We are on track to run on 100% renewable energy by 2025 – five years ahead of our original 2030 target.” — Werner Vogels, AWS.

“But making the cloud run on wind, sun or hydropower is only part of the responsibility for sustainability that we developers and really whoever runs a business must shoulder. It is a shared responsibility and a genuine effort that customers, employees and potential employees will increasingly demand to see.”

5. A new wave of connectivity will bring a new class of applications

Finally, marking the global impact of trends for 2022, Vogels states that billions of people will be positively affected with affordable broadband.

“Low Earth orbit satellites are configured to bring affordable broadband to every corner of the planet. It will change the lives of billions of people as teachers, students, small businesses and virtually anyone connects to the Internet.”

“Ubiquitous connectivity will take us from smart spaces to smart cities, smart countries and ultimately towards a smart world” — Werner Vogels, AWS.
