Do you know the LGPD?

The General Law for the Protection of Personal Data (LGPD) Law nº 13.709/2018, is the Brazilian legislation that regulates the activities of processing personal data and that also amends articles 7 and 16 of the Marco Civil da Internet.

The LGPD will be applied to companies from all sectors of the economy and has an extraterritorial application, that is, every company that does business in the country must adapt to it.

The law also establishes as a condition the user's consent for companies to collect personal information, and the holders can rectify, cancel or even request the deletion of this data at any time. Companies are still required to promptly notify any incident with this information.

In this way, it will provide significant changes for several sectors, with the main focus being to outline guidelines regarding privacy, data use and security. Basically, the law defines how companies must treat Brazilian data. In all, about 120 countries already have such a law and, here in Brazil, the LGPD will come into force in August 2020, until then companies will have to undergo a series of adaptations to adapt to these new rules.

In this process, it will be essential to find reliable partners who have expertise and help in this transformation.
